Sculpture Park Walk

Set amongst 5 acres of old growth eucalyptus. The Sculpture Park grew from a passion for ‘Art in the Garden’. Initially, this involved the purchase of Sculptural pieces, but this evolved to an ‘Artist in Residence’ program. Over the years we have had many pieces of art constructed on site by a wide range of Artists including Chainsaw Work, Metal Creations, Clay & Wax Sculptures.

Artists in Residence
Toney Coombe
Toney was our first Artist in Residence. A young New Zealander carving in stone he is strongly influenced by the culture of the Pacific Island people and their art. The public reaction to his “Easter Island” like heads” was so positive that it was decided to commit Arthurs Seat Maze to the arts and nurture local talent by providing paid commissions in an invigorating atmosphere and inspirational environment.
Ken Blum
Ken has been our most regular Artist in Residence at the maze. He continues to carve the array of cypress logs that have been positioned in the bush block. Using chainsaws axes and chisels Ken has revealed the faces of many of the indigenous people who once roamed the area. He has also carved likenesses of Leonardo Da Vinci adjacent to his Mona Lisa and recently moved on to carve native animals.
Ben McKeown
Ben is a local artist of Aboriginal descent. He first came to the Maze in 2000 exhibiting in an indigenous exhibition. He had an idea to paint ‘totems’ representing various “dreamings”. There are now approximately 20 poles in place painted by this talented young artist who was the Mornington Peninsula Young citizen of the year 2000.
Bruno
Bruno is a Belgium who lives at Marysville, two hours northeast of Melbourne where he has built “Bruno’s Ark”, a unique sculpture park in a natural rainforest environment. His life size terracotta pieces are cherished artworks at the Maze due to their fine detail and life-size proportions.
Mick Hassall
Mick is a true life Aussie from the bush. He works as a full time farmer and shearing contractor. On his visits to the various farms in Western Victoria Mick gathers up disused and other neglected farm equipment and gives them new life in his quirky sculptures of Aussie birds and animals.
Vietnamese Marble
A recent trip to Vietnam found the Savages in Danang where they purchased quiet a few marble pieces from local artisans. A formal garden was needed to set off the white marble works and what better choice than Marigolds could be made!! Other sculptures have been sourced over the years from places as far a field as the Ivory Coast of West Africa and Colombia in South America.
Andy Cadzow
A non-traditional Melbourne artist who works mainly in steel. The large mental sculptures by Andy were originally commissioned for Southgate on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne. The five pieces on show at Arthurs Seat Maze were designed to have flaming heads. However due to the bush environment we have never been able to light them.
